Philipa f. Fem. of Philip.

The name of a 3rd C martyr, a 14th C queen consort of England, and a 14th-15th C queen consort of Portugal.

The name was most commonly found in England and France, and rare elsewhere. In England, the vernacular form was usually identical with the masculine form, until the latter half of the 16th C when it became increasingly popular to adopt Latinized forms as vernaculars (cf. Isabel).
