Griselda f. Possibly Proto-Germanic *grēwaz 'grey' + Old High German hiltja 'battle'.

The character of "Patient Griselda" occurs in both Petrarch and Chaucer, as well as other, less-well known, literature, and her popularity contributed to the use of the name in the later period.
